Founded in 2007 by Australian DJs Andrew Levins and Nina Agzarian with American DJ/producer Diplo, Heaps Decent has spent the last two years hosting music workshops in youth centres across Sydney and regional NSW.
Since 2008, Andrew Levins and Nina Agzarian have represented Heaps Decent in the classrooms of Key College, an independent high school in Surry Hills run by Youth Off the Streets, each week leading a music lesson that includes hands on DJ training, voice recording, song writing and music production. Starting this year, these lesson plans will be put into practice at workshops across NSW.
They have just been listed in Sydney Morning Heralds top 100 most influential people for 2009.
Fuzzy, organisers of Australia’s premiere music events, have joined Heaps Decent as a key partner and benefactor. After supporting Heaps Decent with donations in 2008, Fuzzy are providing an annual income to Heaps Decent and have allocated staff to handle administration and legalities.
A not-for-profit company, Heaps Decent’s work focuses on underprivileged youth in inner city Sydney and regional NSW as well as travelling further a field to seek marginalised youth in communities all across Australia with the desire to make music.
Prepurchase tickets for priority entry, otherwise you can make a donation on the door as well. The $20 and $30 prices are purely reflective of the size of your heart :)
